For the tenth time, Peri is offering all educational and training institutions involved in the field of construction the opportunity of participating in its well known Construction Exercise. The competition not only provides valuable experience with a specific practical application but also the chance to win attractive cash prizes. Winners of the 9th competition were recently awarded – and thoughts have already turned to the next competition.
For many years now, Peri has dedicated itself to supporting young talent in diverse ways. Universities and other educational institutions have been equipped with formwork and scaffolding material for training purposes, and the regular conference organised for professors ensure that the teaching staff are always kept up to date about current developments in formwork and scaffolding technology. In addition, Peri provides future technicians and civil engineers with the latest specialist knowledge in the field of scaffolding and formwork by means of training, plant visits and other activities. Another important element in supporting young, talented people is the Construction Exercise.
The construction exercise was initiated by Peri in 1997 and was extremely well received by both students and professors. The fact is that from the very beginning, this international competition included construction operation content with a strong emphasis on the subsequent professional practice of the participants. For the construction exercise itself, Peri always selects a real project that has already been executed which students are expected to realize whilst integrating such aspects as site equipment and creation of the formwork solution through to construction operations planning. Well known experts from the industry evaluate the solutions submitted and also form the jury for judging the final round. At the same time, the competition is thus an excellent opportunity for students to establish initial contacts with potential employers and to gain insights into the supplier industry.
The high number of participants also reflects the great interest shown by the up and coming young professionals: around 20 teams took part in each of the first construction exercise competitions in the 1990s, and then the number of entries submitted has risen steadily to at least double this amount. As a result, there have been more than 250 participating teams when looking back over the past nine competitions.
For the 10th Construction Exercise which is currently being advertised, Peri once again expects numerous participants from home and abroad. Application documents as well as additional information on the "Anniversary Edition" are now available for those interested in taking part in the competition. The exercise can be worked on in groups of up to five persons; deadline for solutions is 31st July 2015, and can be submitted in German or English. In total, 38 teams submitted their comprehensive solutions for the 9th Construction Exercise. A short list of the five best group work entries were selected and the finalists presented their solutions in mid November 2013 at the Peri training centre in Weissenhorn in front of an audience and the jury.
With very well written documentation and a convincing presentation, the team from the University of Applied Sciences in Kaiserslautern was awarded the first prize in this final round. For the winners as well as all the other participants on the short list, a diverse, two-day programme of events in Ulm and the surrounding area was arranged in addition to the corresponding amount of prize money won by each team – this included a tour of the building featured in the exercise along with a specially arranged visit to the world famous Ulm Minster.
